Sign In with Touch ID

What is Touch ID?

Touch ID provides a quick, easy and secure way to sign in to ExpensePlus. Touch ID uses the fingerprint reader on your device to confirm your unique identity, and removes the need for you to enter your password.

To enable Touch ID you will need a device that has a fingerprint reader or a compatible external device (e.g. a YubiKey). Touch ID is device-specific, however, you can register multiple devices.

ExpensePlus uses WebAuthn to provide Touch ID. WebAuthn is a W3C global standard for secure authentication on the Web supported by all leading browsers and platforms.

Note: Firefox browser does not support TouchID on all devices - click here to find out more. You also can't use Touch ID within Incognito browser mode.

How do I set up Touch ID on my device?

  1. Select the user profile icon (top right corner), then click Multi-Factor Authentication.

  1. Select 'Touch ID Settings'.

  1. Click the 'Register Device' button (or if you are using an external roaming device such as a Yubikey, click the link just below this.

  1. Your device will then ask you to scan your finger.

Once registered, the device will show in the 'Manage Registrations' table at the bottom of the screen.

How to Sign in with Touch ID

If you have set up Touch ID on your device, then you will be able to sign in with Touch ID simply by entering your password, clicking the button below, and clicking the 'sign in' button. You will then be asked by your device to scan your finger on the fingerprint reader to complete the sign in process.

Note: if you have already set up Touch ID on your device, but are not seeing this option, click the 'Sign In with Touch ID' link as shown below.

Should I set up Two Factor Authentication (2FA) as well as Touch ID?

Yes, we'd recommend you set up both. Touch ID provides a faster secure way to sign into ExpensePlus, however, the option to sign in with a password is still offered. Enabling 2FA in addition to Touch ID means that where Touch ID isn't used, an authentication code will be required, thus protecting your account.

Note: Enabling 2FA doesn't mean that you will have an extra sign-in step, it just means that if Touch ID isn't used, your account is further protected by the need to enter an authentication code.

How do I get ExpensePlus to forget my device?

To disable Touch ID on your device:

  1. Go to your Touch ID Settings.
  2. Click the 'x' button if you wish to just forget your Touch ID registration on the device you are on, OR click the 'delete' button if you wish to forget your Touch ID registration on ALL devices.

Note: if you lose your device, or your device is stolen, then without your fingerprint to sign in, no one else will be able to access ExpensePlus using Touch ID on that device.
