How do I delete a category?
To delete a category:
- Go to Settings > 'Income and Expenditure Categories';
- Select the fund the category is in, then scroll down to either the 'Income' or 'Expenditure' table;
- Click the 'bin' icon next to the category you want to delete.
Note: you can only delete a category that has no transactions allocated to it AND where the category doesn't exist in any future financial years (e.g. you can't delete a category from 2024 if it exists in 2025)
What if the delete icon is greyed out?
If the 'delete' icon to the right of the category you are wishing to delete is greyed out, then it's not possible to delete the category.
To find out why this is, hover over the delete icon.
Whilst the most common reason categories can't be deleted is that they have transactions associated with them, other reasons can include things such as the category existing in a future financial year.
What if the category has transactions in it?
To delete a category with transactions, you will first need to re-allocate the transactions to other categories. To do this:
- Go to 'Financial Reports', then click the 'Summary (by Fund)' report
- Select the financial year, fund and category name of the category you are trying to delete
Note: don't forget to update the view to date to the end of the financial year, if you've entered any future-dated transactions or adjustments (otherwise these won't show within the report)
- Select the transactions that need to be moved
- Select the 'move selected transactions' button
- In the popup, select the fund and category you wish to move the selected transactions to, then select 'confirm'
