How to add formatting to my year end accounts
This article explains how you can use 'markdown' to add formatting to your year end accounts.
The year end accounts templates within ExpensePlus come with basic formatting such as headers.
It is however possible to add additional formatting through the use of what is called 'markdowns'.
Alternatively, you can download your accounts from ExpensePlus in .doc format, allowing you to add your own formatting within Microsoft Word (or a similar tool).
How to add markdowns
Here is a list of the markdowns supported, along with examples of how these will appear within your downloaded accounts (both .pdf and .doc downloads).

Where additional or more complex document formatting or editing is required, we'd recommend that you download accounts as .doc, and edit within Microsoft Word (or a similar tool).
When you add markdown for your prior financial year in the year end module in ExpensePlus, the formatting will not carry forward into the next financial year as the current financial year has already been created.
Therefore, we recommend that you copy any markdown you enter for your prior financial year into your current financial year. This will then be carried forward when your future financial year is created in ExpensePlus.
For example
You are working on your prior financial year 2025 and add markdown to help format your year end accounts.
We recommend you copy the markdown now into your 2026 financial year.
When your 2027 financial year is created, the markdown will have been carried forward and you do not need to enter it again.
