How can I prevent a spouse from approving their partner's purchases?

To prevent spouses from being able to approve their partner's expenses, you need to:

  1. Link the two users

You can link users in the User Setting screen.

Click on either of the related users and set the spouse accordingly.

  1. Set up backup approvers

Set up backup approvers for the expenditure categories in every fund on the Category Setting screen.

If the submitter's spouse is the primary approver of the category, the backup approver of that category will automatically get assigned as the approver for that purchase.

Notes:

  • ExpensePlus won't allow Primary Approvers and Backup Approvers to be spouses (if you want to allow this, you mustn't set these users as spouses).
  • Currently, it's only possible to link two users in this way.
  • ExpensePlus prevents spouses from approving each other's purchases where categories have backup approvers set, even if they have permission to approve on other's behalf.
