How do I record an investment purchase or the top-up of an investment?

This article explains how to record an investment purchase or the top-up of an investment on ExpensePlus.

Your organisation's investment portfolio is shown in the Investments module.

This article is for churches and charities that account on an accruals basis.

How to record an investment top-up or purchase

When you purchase a new investment, or top up an existing investment with cash, you can record this through the bank matching screen:

  • open the bank matching screen for the bank account from which you withdrew money for the investment
  • in the left-hand table, click on the relevant paid out transaction
  • in the 'Transaction Type' drop-down menu that appears, select 'Money Invested'.

Where this is a top-up for an existing investment, select the appropriate account from the list. If it is a new investment, click 'Add Investment'.

The transaction will then be recorded within the specific investment (accessed via the Investments module), and the value of the investment will have been increased accordingly.
