How to add access for an independent examiner or external bookkeeper
In ExpensePlus, you can give access to your independent examiners to view your accounts, and to external bookkeepers to help manage your accounts.
This article covers two ways to give these users access to your account, depending on whether your independent examiner or bookkeeper is a company verified by ExpensePlus or not.
ExpensePlus has a directory of verified independent examiners, charity bookkeepers, and other specialists who have experience of working with and supporting churches and charities that use ExpensePlus as their fund accounting package.

Add your independent examiner or external bookkeeper as a user
If your independent examiner or bookkeeper is not verified with ExpensePlus, you will need to add your independent examiner or external bookkeeper as a user. To do this, navigate to the User Settings screen and click 'Add New'.

Then enter the user's details:
- For independent examiners - we recommend you give this user the role of 'Independent Examiner or Auditor', which will provide view-only access to your ExpensePlus account.
- For external bookkeepers - typically, you would give this user the role of 'Finance Team', which will provide them with full access to your account. Alternatively, you can create a custom user role, or select from one of the other available roles.

If you try to add your independent examiner or external bookkeeper as a user, but they are already a verified company with ExpensePlus, you will get this warning message:
'Already in use or has been reserved. If you want to add access for your independent examiner or external bookkeeper, click here.'
You should instead follow the steps in the next section, for adding a verified independent examiner or external bookkeeper.
Adding access for a verified independent examiner or external bookkeeper
If the independent examiner or external bookkeeper your organisation uses is verified with ExpensePlus, then you need to add access within the Organisation Settings screen.
Click the edit button on the right-hand side of the screen:

If you add an independent examiner, this will provide them view-only access to your ExpensePlus account.
If you add an external bookkeeper, it will provide them full access to your ExpensePlus account.
