Tracking donor communication permissions

Within ExpensePlus you can record communication permissions for your donors. In the Manage Donors screen, click on the communications tab.

You can click into each individual donor and under the 'Communication' tab, you can set whether a donor has given permission to receive communications from your church or charity (see the image below).

You can set this for all donors no matter how they give to your charity or the manner in which they communicate permission. For example, donors may give permission through:

  • ticking a box on a form
  • emailing you to give you permission
  • giving via LoveGiving and setting that they would like to receive communication

Note: there is no direct connection between someone giving communication permission when making a LoveGiving donation (which you can see within the LoveGiving report) and the communication permission field within Manage Donors. As with other ways of donors giving permission, you will need to update the manage donor communications screen manually.

Exporting data to Mailchimp

To export data to Mailchimp, the donor communication permission that is within the manage donor module appears on the Donor Mailmerge Data report.

To transfer data on communication permission, you have two options:

(1) Filter out donors that have not given permission by clicking 'Hide Donors without permission'

(2) Include all donors in the export and later in Mailchimp filter via the 'Communication Permission' column

To better understand the Manage Donors module, please view the module overview here.
